Samsung is headed for a year of strong sales following the announcement of the Galaxy S4. In the first month alone, the company sold over a million units and aims to increase that growth by launching variants of this popular smartphone.
In the past, Galaxy S Duos and Galaxy Grand were variants of the S3, and in keeping with this tradition, the S4 will also have variants of its own. All the S4 variants will have significant differences in design but will carry the S4 name. Here they are!
Galaxy S4 Mini
The Galaxy S4 Mini is simply a smaller version of the S4. Whereas the S4 has a 5-inch screen, the S4 mini will have a 4.3-inch screen. The mini will use a dual-core 1.7 GHz Krait processor with 1.5 GB RAM and internal memory of 8GB. There is also an LTE version of the S4 mini, which will have 2GB of RAM, including a Qualcomm SoC to facilitate the LTE.
Galaxy S4 Mega
This phone is going to be bigger than the S4 with a 5.8-inch screen. With multiple options available, the GT-i9205 version has a 1.7-GHZ dual-core Krait 300 CPU, an Adreno 305 GPU and 1.5 GB of RAM. The company seems to be investing heavily in producing phones that are above the 5-inch screen size.
This strategy is interesting; the company’s large-screen Galaxy Note series has performed well, but it is in a class of its own since it comes with a stylus. Samsung is attempting to replicate this success with the Mega series. The price of the Mega series will likely be comparable to Samsung’s current large-screen phones.
In India, there was a launch for the Mega 5.8-inch and Mega 6.3-inch phones. Nobody knows when the company will launch officially launch the S4 Mega.
S4 Zoom
Samsung has produced the S4 Zoom to counter the PureView technology used by Nokia. The Nokia 920 is said to have the best mobile imaging sensors, and Samsung is ready to take it on.
The S4 Zoom’s camera has 10X zoom on a 16-megapixel camera, but the phone has hardware similar to that of the S4 Mini. It was unveiled in June.
S4 Active
This phone is designed for the active person and can resist water and dust penetration. The Active will come with a quad-core 1.9GHz processor with Adreno 320 GPU and 2 GB RAM. It will also have a 5-inch full HD touch screen just like any other S4. The phone will come with an 8-megapixel camera, much lower than the 13-megapixel camera found on the original S4.
There are significant differences in the design of the active since it has a body of metal as opposed to the plastic of the original S4. It will also have four hardware navigation buttons on the front. This phone is bound to be more popular, since it offers features similar to those of the original S4 with the ruggedness of an Xcover2.
While the success of the multiple variations of the S4 remain to be seen, Samsung certainly has developed a recent reputation of outpacing competitors. If you’re interested in buying a Samsung S4 of your own, be sure to touch and feel each variation to make sure you pick the one that’s right for you!
