Frontline Commando 2: Latest shooter emerge from Glu’s freemium blaster factory

Glu Games has recently released Frontline Commando 2 this March, and from what we’ve seen so far the game is packed with great entertainment. This comes shortly after their movie-based Robocop release.

The game has certain similarities to both Robocop, and the earlier game in this series – Frontline Commando: D-Day. There are some changes that keep things interesting, though, so read on for a detailed review of Frontline Commando 2.

An urban overview of the storyline

The storyline goes that you are a mercenary, who was left for dead by your cohorts, and now you are seeking revenge. Like the other games mentioned above, this game is a third-person shooter, where you don’t have total freedom of movement.

The game scenes look more urban than the earlier releases, but the biggest change you may notice is that the graphics are more crisp and clear. The game visuals look great, even if some of the death scenes are still laughable. As far as the presentation goes, the Frontline Commando 2 game clearly beats D-Day, and is on a par with Robocop.

Intriguing gameplay

The game play has you firing at enemy combatants from your fixed position. You can pop up out of cover to take a shot when you want, and you can move between several different cover points, so you get different shooting angles. This is useful if you want to target a specific opponent.

The makers decided to step up their game and make a change – you need to build your squad, which will then aid you in combat situations. While squad members can be useful, you may find that you need to spend money in order to train them to the point where they can be really helpful.

The game has over fifty missions to complete.  In each one, you need to kill a certain set of targets, and complete certain goals. After you finish a set of missions, then you get to fight the boss.

When you win that, then you get to the next part of the story.  Finishing missions gives you cash, which you can use to buy new weapons, upgrade your weapons, or train your squad.  Completing the goals can give you different types of rewards, such as bonus items, gold, or new members for your squad.

Free gaming vs. paid gaming

Frontline Commando 2 is a free game, with in-game purchases. You will see ads popping up here and there and there are timers on upgrades that slow things down (unless, of course, you want to spend real money to speed them up). You will need continually better weapons as you move further into the game, and you need to train those squad members too.

Almost everything in the game can be speeded up or purchased with real money, though it is possible to play for free. You can choose whether to play the slow (free) way, or whether to pull out your credit card to speed things up.

One interesting change in this game is how the PvP mode works. Now you are facing your opponent along with his backup squad. That makes the PvP scenario much more interesting and challenging, introducing tactics like prioritizing which of your opponent’s characters to kill first. The winner gets some experience and ranking points, and cash to spend.

If you don’t mind free-to-play games with lots of premium purchase options, then this good-looking shooter may be worth a try. You can find it on the Android market and enjoy this intriguing game experience on your smart device.

Be ready to shoot your way through seven incredibly entertaining battlefields, and have your weapon loaded to take down tanks, sniper, helicopters, flying drones, weapon specialists and more.
